If it is done after an extraction, the freeze dried bone is packed into the open socket. If there is no extraction an incision is made in the gum where the graft will be placed, a tiny hole may be drilled and then the bone will be packed in with an instrument that looks like a tiny spoon. All of this will be done under local anesthesia
