Does the enamel on teeth heal itslef?!

Question: I made myself throw up quite a bit in the fall, but stopped and haven't done it for almost 4 1/2 months now. If I go to the dentist now will they be able to tell, or will my teeth have healed themselves?
Answers:
I am so glad that you have stopped purging. It is bad for your teeth, yes, but it also has a multitude of other bad effects for the body. The question of enamel. Yes in some instances the enamel can become strong again. This is called re mineralization. If your enamel has not eroded away too deeply then you can start using a good f2 rinse everyday to help the mineralization process. I would suggest seeing your dentist and asking them for a strong prescription f2 toothpaste called prevident. Any information you tell them about yourself including your purging history has to remain confidential. All they will be interested in is helping you to keep your teeth, but your health as well. If for any reason you relapse there are several things you can do to not make it worse on your teeth. Don't brush right away after you throw up. Rinse, Rinse, Rinse with either plain water or some warm water with baking soda. The baking soda will help neutralize the acid. Also don't use any harsh tooth pastes such as tarter control. These are more abrasive, and you don't need that on vulnerable teeth. I am glad that you are in remission. Don't remain silent about it find someone to talk to, a friend, pastor, family member. There are also group networks available to help you, type in purging + help on your search engine and this should lead you in the right direction. You have nothing to be ashamed of, you have a problem in which many women have, and I know that there is someone that can help you. You don't have to do this alone. I will keep you in my prayers.

The enamel does not heal itself. My wife used to eat raw lemons (ewww) and still has enamel problems.
Yes it does.
No, it doesn't. I'm so glad you stopped doing that. Thin is not worth it. If you need to learn to eat and not gain, join Weight Watchers. It is a wonderful program, and you can eat!

My girlfriend is in the April issue of First this time. Page 40, or 41? She has lost over 180 lbs. Had to have her arms fixed because of loose skin.

You should see the food she puts away. And she weighs 160 and wears a size 4 jean. Works out at the gym everyday. She started out at 365LBS!

This shows that the scale is just a number. Your health is what is important. Eat right and exercise, this is key.
No, enamel will not heal itself. Damage to enamel can only be fixed with restorative dentistry. IE: fillings, crowns, etc. Be honest with you dentist about the problem you had.. there is nothing to be ashamed of.. he or she is there to help you.
