Maybe. I think it's the other stuff though, nicotene just gets you addicted to smoking. I think the tar and poisons and smoke are what give you cancer.

Nicotene is not in itself a major carcinogen. Nicotene is in large part simply an addictant which is added to cigarettes in order to keep people consuming them.
It is instead the additive and naturally occuring toxins and substances in the tobacco mixture which, when burnt, will produce smoke which clogs the lungs and leads to micro-infections which generate cancer cells.
I think of it this way, when people are in a house fire & die it's not the flame that kills them. it's the smoke. Sucking smoke into your lungs is bad for you.
