why do women with aids have abortions?!

Question:
Answers:
Although their is a strong likelihood that with treatment their baby can come through the process without developing AIDS, I am certain that the decision is very personal. The mother will not be around to raise said child. Adoption is often out because many people do not want to adopt a baby that may be HIV positive. The fact is that the tests are not conclusive until the child is 2 years of age due to antibodies from the mother.

Ummm.so they don't sentence their children to an early grave after a lifetime of pain and illness?
in order to not spread it to their children.
Why do ANY women have abortions? I don't think it's a different reason.
so thier babies wont have aids
MOst likely it's because they don't want to risk passing the disease to their unborn child.
Perhaps because they lack the ability to use their brain and get pregnant in the first place.
their child will be born with it
i dont know. but why bring a child into the world infected. and then to not be able to have a normal care free life.
Because their baby would be born with it.
the fear of passing it onto their unborn child
b/c they will otherwise give birth to aids babies, who, much like crack babies are born with an illness, and they always will be sick and will die early.
also, aids babies when they are born never stop crying, literally (i work in a hospital) its very sad.
so its just something to avoid making an innocent human being suffer.
For the same reasons any other woman has a abortion. A women with AIDS can give birth to a healthy child who does not have AIDS if she recieves lots of prenatal care, has a bloodless C-section birth and then does not breastfeed her child after it is born.
then they will help in spreading aids.b'coz through blood transfution, sexual contact and by the woman(with aids)(to their baby) a person can get aids.so to avoid they under go abortions.

It is because they don't want that their baby will be born with aids and they don't want that their baby will suffer. they don't want the baby to be born because people will reject and avoid their children. the other one it is hard for them to get pregnant and raise babies because of their situation. it is hard for the baby to survive.

it's my own explanation!
Possibly because their child MAY have aids too because of shared blood - but it isn't definite that they will have it, I don't think.

But also, if their own life expectancy is not good, or their health is failing them, they may not have the energy to carry the pregnancy through to term and then look after a baby in the way they would have wanted to.

Think outside the square.
Depends on the woman and her situation. Some women don't think they'll be alive long enough to care for a child. Others don't want to pass the disease to their babies. Others can't handle the physical stress of a pregnancy.

The reasons for abortion, whether you're HIV positive or not are wide and varied.
actually, parent to child transmission occurs due to infection of baby by maternal blood, cervico-vaginal secretion or via breast milk. The baby gets infected either due to transplacental hemorrhage or due to infection via umbilical cord or via oral and GI mucosa while swallowing infected amniotic fluid. The incidence of parent to child transmission is 20% in western world whereas it is as high as 30-40% in developing countries.
