permanent muscles?!

Question: is there a way to gain 'permanent' muscles? the same kind of muscle mass that you put on during puberty that never goes away? could i force my body into building that kind of muscle in a short period of time and then only work out once a week to maintain the overall mass with power movements like deadlifts, power cleans, military press and curls?
i was thinkintg of upping my calories to 4,000 a day and then working out once every four days ferociously and do this for about three months. i tried doing this before but when i got off the diet, i'd shribble up.

Answers:
No muscles are permanent. However to add muscle mass, use high weight and low reps, four or five times a week. Reduce the weight and increase the number of reps for maintenance, and you can probably cut back to lifting two or three times a week. Be sure not to neglect your cardio -- no point in having big muscles if you haven't the stamina to apply them.

As far as nutrition, make sure you eat carbohydrates before workout but NOT after, only protein. More calories only makes sense if you're working out really hard, otherwise keep your same diet until you feel hungry.

No, the only way to make them "permanent" is to keep pumping iron
implants!
loner,

Skeletal muscles respond to stimuli (anaerobic excersizes) and by breaking down during workouts, grow by rebuilding during rest and sleep. Growth occurs most efficiently with good nutrition and adequate rest. You don't grow when working out.you tear it down then. You actually grow when you sleep.

If it takes stimuli to make 'em grow, it's gonna take maintenance to keep 'em up. I lost a lot of mass when I put the weights down, but I still look massive, due to good skeletal structure.look at my arms and chest though, and it's obvious that I don't work out.no definition, but I still have some mass, and I guess that comes from genetics? I dunno.

It seems you're a hard gainer, and once you drop the full-on weight lifting, you lose all you gained. Maybe once a week is just too little to keep 'em stimulated to the point where you keep what you built up. It may take some experimenting to determine what level of maintenance work you have to put in.
This is the 1st time that I ever heard of PERMANENT MUSCLES, but u could work out every week. Good Luck & Have Fun!
