Buy it at a Louis Vuitton store? Honestly - the knockoffs are so good that I tend to steer clear of LV. You start looking at the person carrying it as opposed to the purse itself to tell if it's real. Like I'm just gonna ASSUME that the ratty/trashy woman I saw carrying one was not carrying a real one. And the stylishly dressed business woman I saw carrying one was carrying a real one. But at the end of the day - ya just don't know. (And *tsk tsk* I shouldn't be judging books by covers! :) Buy something more original or heck - get a good knockoff and save the cash!

Check out the inside lining, and to see if there is a white tag that says made in china, than you know that you got ripped!

these bags are handmade and you can really tell the difference from the cheap ones out there.
but there are fake ones that are very similar to real ones and also sell pretty expensive, even with "louis vuitton, paris" (that's what a real one would have) labels
it's hard to tell with all the 'REAL' imitations
esp LV salsa, one of the top bags that got imitated =)
basic facts of a fake LV:
- slightly different in color & size
- the inside of the bag wont be as neat, the stiches & lining wont be as discreet and smooth as the real one
- the LV stamps (on the lock, tag, etc) are sometimes smudged and unclear
but if you buy from an authorized LV shop, it should be real
ps: have a look at the dust bag & id card too, it may help you to spot a fake bag
