Is it bad to drink Gatorade when you're not losing sweat or working out?!

Question: People tell me that I ingest too much sodium when my body doesn't need it and isn't sweating.
Answers:
First of all, who is it that says you're getting too much sodium? If it's a legitimate medical professional, I'd suggest listening. But if you're a healthy person without such chronic conditions like high blood pressure, you may be okay drinking Gatorade in moderation.

So how the heck much is "moderate"? A pint, or half a litre, a day is probably not too much. However - Gatorade was invented specifically as a drink meant to replenish the electrolytes lost during intense physical activity such as spending a hot afternoon playing right tackle in a college football game.

You lose electrolytes in sweat - any amount of sweat. Usually this is not a problem, but the intense level of competition in even high school athletics nowadays can lead to serious loss of water and electrolytes. It can get bad enough to kill ya before anyone realized you're in serious trouble. Gatorade was invented specifically to reduce the chances of that happening by replacing not just water, but electrolytes. Which means it has added sodium, potassium and chloride as well as a few other chemicals. IF you were completely healthy and IF you drank like three quarts or litres a day of Gatorade, you just might put yourself into a situation where you have too much of a good thing - and a high level of sodium and the other electrolytes is as much a problem as not having enough!

Suggestion: lots of good-tasting drinks out there. Why don't ya alternate between, say, Gatorade, sugar-free lemonade, sugar-free iced tea, including on occasion some of those nicely-flavored iced tea drinks? And good old hydrogen dioxide, aka water, is also a good thing to add to your drink repertoire. Good luck and have fun!

It's OK. It doesn't contain much sodium (relatively speaking) but it does have a few calories. Theoretically speaking, you could drink a lot of it without any ill effects.
