yes they last 5 years. But I read on a norplant website that they are not using norplant anymore. So I guess when those expire you will have to find another form of BC. Also norplant is only effective for women <165 pounds.

Be CAREFUL! A friend of mine had this done some yrs ago and after taking antibiotics she got pregnant--the antibiotics kill the nor-plant.
