I have to have oral surgery done?!

Question:
They are going to put me to sleep with an IV, will that hurt??
Answers:
Once you have dental work with iv sedation, there will be no going back. It is great. You feel some discomfort when the iv goes in, but after that la la land there you go. Once that iv is in place you will not have a care in the world. As soon as they put the sedation meds in you are gone. You will be talking away and the next thing you know they will have you in recovery. It really is the best way to go, as it makes the appointment seem like it flies by. They will monitor your blood pressure and pulse throughout the whole procedure so you will be safe. Where loose fitting comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes. Don't wear a lot of make-up and don't eat anything after twelve midnight of the day you will be going in. You must have someone drive you, as you will be pretty much out of it the rest of the day. Your prob. will end up sleeping a lot. It really is a great thing. I promise you will do great.

The needle poke will hurt a little bit, but not as much as not putting you to sleep would.

Oh Yes, I had oral surgery done. They should numb your hand before they thread the IV at least they do before you have surgery in the hospital. You might feel a little discomfort and burning to start with, but once the IV is in your it doesn't hurt. I think it hurts worse when they pull it out.

Oh, no.you feel the needle and they start with a saline drip (or whatever it is, no drugs in it) then they put the drug into that solution and you are gone almost instantaneously.

When i had oral surgery i told the nurse how nervous i was so she went ahead and started my laughing gas to relax me. The needle pinched just a little but after that its fine.
