Cavity Filled?!

Question:
Does getting a cavity filled hurt? I have to get two filled in August. I don't care aboout the filling I just want to know about the Novocaine. I've had it before in my knee but I really don't want it in my mouth.
Answers:
First off dentists do not use Novocaine anymore, they use lidocaine mostly. Many people were found to be allergic to some of the additives in Novocaine. Second injections can be uncomfortable, but not terrible. If you can stand an injection in the knee, then you can handle having an injection in your mouth. Third ask your dentist to refer you to someone who may be able to fill your teeth earlier then august. If she is a good dentist then she should understand why you don't want to wait so long. Sometimes a few months don't really matter, but if they are large cavities, then a few months can make a big difference. Ask to have a copy of your x-rays so the other dentist can look at them without having to re-take them and charging you or your insurance again.

Other Answers:
Why are you waiting until August?

They will put the novocaine into your mouth - the needle pinches a little bit - the pain depends on your tolerence and where the needle is inserted. Once the novocaine starts, you shouldn't feel anything. If you do, let the dentist know.

It's more annoying than painful The needle can be, depending on how much they have to give you, a little uncomfortable, but you will be okay. The worst part is after the fact and not feeling your mouth and lips --that is annoying as hell. Good luck!

no it wont hurt as long as you get a injection , try going to another dentist as the cavity will only get bigger by august you may then loose the tooth.
can you find another dentist - then go and do it
