instead of taking sugar can a diabetic take honey instead ?!

Question:
a diabetic has to control sugar intake ,but if he takes honey at daily normal intake does that jepordise his health ?
Answers:
Of course not. Sugar is sugar. Both honey and sugar (processed or not) are simple carbohydrates, which is what a diabetic should stay away from. Staying away from sugar is easy. It's staying away from other carbohydrates that is difficult. If you have a sweet tooth, you can buy sugarless Recees peanut butter cups, Hershey chocolate bars, and Russell Stover Pecan turtles. All are no sugar and low glycemic. As for the idiot who answered a couple of answers before me, Mighty God's name is not Al.

Other Answers:
Honey should be treated the same as sugar for diabetics.

Yes as long as you're not allergic to it.

It really depends if your hyperglicemic or hypoglicemic. If you are on insulin that should regulate your sugar levels, if not I wouldn't advise you have honey all the time. If you are hypoglicemic it should be ok to have honey a couple of times a day, most peoples blood sugars are low first thing in a morning, not just diabetics. If i was you i would consult your doctor or diatician.

no. u shouldn't take honay instead.. u should stick to the special sugar that the doctor recommend to u..
taking honey is not a good alternative cause it might worsen ur condition

While honey is generally considered a health food (and it is quite healthy for someone without diabetes), in many ways it is just a harmful as sugar for a diabetic.

You might instead look at an all-natural sweetner called Stevia. It's gaining popularity in the US-you can typically find it in most health food stores and/or sometimes at your grocer's in the health food section. In the packaged forms out there, it is highly concentrated-typically a bottle of about 5-6 oz. can last 6 months or more, depending on how much is used. Stevia has a safe glycemic index for diabetics (in that regard, it's like a commercial sugar substitute). I've include a few links with info.

YES! Honey is sugar as well. An excellent sugar substitute for diabetics (I am type II) is Splenda. It tastes exactly like real sugar but is not. Trust me on this one. Honey is NOT a good substitute. They sell Splenda in every grocery store. They even have it for use in baking.
