How does it change you?!

Question:
If you were to live your life acting a certain way and you could never figure it out why you were this way, but you knew it was bad, because people told you your very wrong about how you act?

Then all of a sudden its explained?

Example: My life has been horrible and people have treated me horribly because of my high and lows. I have treated them badly too, but only when they hurt me. Then everyone finds out I am bipolar.

So my whole life I have been acting a certain way and people have tormented me and hurt me with words like "YOUR CRAZY"

How would you feel to know its not your fault?
How would you feel if these people that called you names kept up with it even though they knew you have a condition?

It can be anything, but how would you react?

I have suffered and been hurt a lot and it wasn't my fault. I want to turn my back on the people that don't want to help me and don't change the way they act. I want to turn my back on the people who don't try to understand.

bipolar is a serious condition for you and your loved ones. hopefully with medication and therapy, you can find your life a lot easier to live. i agree to a certain extent about you choosing how to act, but unless a person is going through what you are, there is no way to understand what it's like, so i won't pretend to. just do your best, and realize that the hurtful things people say are most likely out of not being able to understand what you are going through. it's hard for them, too. communication is the best way to try to help them understand. they probably don't know any better, so you have to help them.

as for previous comments: mental illness is NOT an excuse to medicate people!! yikes! mental illness is very real and the last thing diagnosed people need is to get a comment about how the doctors are just making up their condition. the reason why you haven't heard of these conditions in the past is because it was taboo to be different. people were locked up in asylums for something as treatable as depression. and long before that they were even killed! look it up, psychology has a grusome past.
we all need to accept that as society changes, so does mental illness, medicine, treatment, and the human condition. be tolerant, not judgmental.

bipolar. done mean that you are crazy. there is.2. medicatios used to treat it . lithem .is one .ducklota is the other one. you need to find different friends in my opion?

thats really rough. first i should point out that have bipolar disorder doesn't excuse you from innapropiate behavior. Not that i think you are acting inapropiatly i just want to point it out. Like, someone with bipolar can't go out and beat someone up and get away with it just cause they got a low and got mad or something, you know? i guess im just saying becareful, and make sure not to pass all the blame onto bipolar. It definetly effects you and your descisions, but it doesnt choose it for you, do you get what i mean? like, dont say everything you do is the fault of bipolar. It does definetly affect your whole life, but you do have to take credit for your actions and all. That might have sounded like i was bashing you or something, i wasnt just so you know. Anyways.

Im in a similiar situation as to that. I dont have bipolar, i just have depression but my friends are acting like that to me as well. Anyways, if the people you know are still treating you like crap you need to talk to them. Explain to them how much it hurts you and stuff like that. Try to get them to understand why it hurts and stuff. Ask that they don't do those things and all. If they refuse to relent, you need to give them an ultimatum. If that doesnt work, then you really need to just drop them. What they are doing is rude and uncalled for and they need to be sympathetic to you, cause bipolar is a very diffucult thing to deal with. You don't need them dragging you down if they are acting like that. I hope that something works out for you, and good luck =>

I am sorry, but I find this more of an excuse than a diagnosis. I think people in this day are so out of whack on morals, and values. They are looking for every excuse to take the blame off of themselves. The truth of the matter is, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS, diagnosis or not! I think therapists don't know what to do with people so they come up with these disorders. If these are really disorders, then how's come they are just now becoming more prevalent? You never heard of someone having these issues years ago.It makes one wonder if we aren't just so eager to medicate this generation..
My advice to you, is don't use this diagnosis as a crutch or a shield against your family. It will divide you as a whole. The bottom line is they just love you and they want what's best for you. They want to be proud of who you are!! That's the reason why they are so hard on you! Because they expect more from you. You need to get yourself in a good church congregation and learn who Jesus is! He is waiting for you!
I know I will not win a popularity contest with this comment. And that's ok, we are all entitled to our opinions. This just happens to be mine!

Good Luck!

My oldest son is bipolar and while it's not his fault he is bipolar his behavior is his fault. He still control his behavior. Yes it's harder for him than the normal person, but he still controls it. That is where his meds come in. It helps him help himself. Sorta like a side kick I guess you can say. (That's how I explained it to my kids when they started taking meds)

Yes when he gets into a rage he says and does things he normally wouldn't, however he still gets hold accountable for it. Not like he would if he just got normal mad. But we talk about it and what he can do instead. By now I do know the difference between a rage/manic episode and a normal preteen fit.

However while bipolar is technically called a mental illness which most uneducated people think when they hear those two words "mental illness" is "CRAZY". Bipolar people are not crazy although they can be seen that way when off their meds.

Especially if they have the systems of seeing and hearing things that are not there, which fortuntatly my son doesn't have. I really hate that people think Bipolars are Crazy when they are not. They just really have trouble regulating their moods. That's it. But it all comes down to educating society.

As for you learn to forgive and love. You want people to treat you differently? Well treat them with love and forgivness and go on with your life. Having unforgivness in your life can make it so ugly. So forgive already and get on with it. You got so much to live for. Good luck.
