Natural treatment for depression?!

Question:
Is natural treatment for depression effective? After being prescribed anti-depressants and deciding not to take them, I decided to go to a naturopath and had an iris test wich revealed I was suffering from adrenal fatigue. Of course I told him I was suffering from anxiety and depression beforehand so he might have made that assumption on his own. He prescribed me the following supplements: Serofin(St. John's wort extract), Liquid amino yeast, L-Tyrosine and Cal Mag Zinc..+ a dietary regime. Would this be a safe and effective way to treat depression and anxiety?
Answers:
st john's wort is popular in europe.

but FDA still doesn't approve the product-i think.

the thing about artificially prepared antidepressants are they are the ones most likely to have the downsides. nausea, chilling, mood swings etc.

try the natural ones!- yoga, meditation, arts, painting, try reading a book, literature, mythology.

don't hurry- hurrying means more adrenaline and more adrenaline may lead to stress that may also lead to depression (one thing leads to another)

put your phone into voice mail so that you will have time to concentrate.

avoid excitement which also means adrenaline to you.

take in vitamins.

and as much as possible be optimistic, calm yourself down.

natural treatments can work, i dont really know of any but if your doctor has recommended it its most lieky gonna work

The whole creation and destruction thing gets to me sometimes.. I've found marijuana has worked well for me, though I would often rather live without it. It makes your spacey and makes you naturally giggle and carefree. It also makes you forget, but usually only things that we'ren't very important anyway. I'm glad I have never tried anti-depressants. I've got some friends that have taken them for a while and they seem to turn into completely different people. I guess the same can be said for most drugs, though. There's no good answer when trying to treat the ultimate ironies of the universe, friend. God maybe, if you can swallow that lump.

Don't be scared to take the anti-depressants. That is part of the depression. Trust me, just take them, within 3-4 weeks you will feel like a completely different person. You will be glad you did take them. Start NOW. To put in perspective, a diabetic takes medication to manage their sugar levels, a depressed person takes medication to manage their seretonine levels in their brain. It is completely normal and natural, just like a diabetic. Don't look at it so badly or shamefully, it is safe, natural and most of all good for you. Start taking them and e-mail me in 3 weeks time when, I know you will feel great, and glad that you didi take them!!
Please do it, you will never look back. IT IS OK!!

Friends

I have been taking St John's Wort for depression for a few months now, and I do notice a difference when I stop taking it. As for taking anti depressants, I would imagine it depends on what is causing your depression. My mother is bipolar and has to take Prozac every day, as it balances out the chemicals in her brain. My brother took Prozac for normal, clinical depression and it made him worse. Basically what I'm trying to say is that "talking therapies" (counselling etc) are usually more effective for "non chemical" depression, and anti depressants work best with chemically induced depression. I would recommend St John's Wort, unless you find it doesn't help at all. What the naturopath as suggested sounds good, as you're not relying on chemicals that won't necessarily work. I hope this makes sense, and is helpful!!
