Can vegetables think? No. really.?!

Question:
If humans think, don't plants have some sort of consciousness too? Why is it so much better to kill plants than animals and eat them. Are they not also living things?
Answers:
think of it as a bacteria.bacteria is a living organism.if you disinfect it will it not die?does bacteria think?does bacteria feel pain and what not?

veggies live off water/sun/nutrients just as we do.veggies begin to rot bebore dead/wasted.
humans rot after death.

what will you do?
what will you think?

Other Answers:
Vegetables don't have a conscious.

They do not have brains, which is kind of important to the thinking process. But interestingly enough, I have heard of a study where they monitored lettuce as it was plunked from the ground, and it registered an ultra-high frequency the scientists could only refer to as a scream.

For one thing, there is absolutely zero evidence that plants feel pain (I know a fair deal about plants.biochem major). The "scream" a previous poster mentioned is the absolute most preposterous thing i've ever heard.plants don't have anatomy like ours at all.it is simply impossible for them to scream, even if they were in pain (lettuce is pretty much just water and beta linked carbohydrates)
For the sake of argument, if plants do feel pain, it's not in the same way we do, as they lack a central nervous system and a brain like animals do.
The pain a pig feels when being stabbed is exactly the same way you feel when stabbed. We are very similar from a biological standpoint! Given the fact that they aren't even in the same kingdom as we are, it's ridiculous to even compare killing a vegetable to an animal.

HEY! that's what i think too. And even if they don't have some sort of a brain, how do we know they can't feel?
But then, after studyin a little of biology, I suppose the sense of touch is connected to our brains, hence if plants lack brains, they lack the ability to feel.

BUT THEN AGAIN. we might be wrong. afterall, no one has ever turned into a plant and back into a human before to tell us whether plants feel any pain. So for all we know.

AND! someone told me before that everytime you step on the grass, they scream.
I laughed at her, but she might be right afterall.

but i suppose even if plants can feel and think, we probably won't be able to find that out in the near future.. Hence in this case, ignorance is bliss. Since we don't know whether plants can really feel, we just assume they can't. And hence if they can't feel and animals can feel, it is better to kill and eat plants than animals!

does that answer satisfy your question?

plants are animals too!

actually mary, plants do feel pain. a researcher put electrodes on a tree high above the trunk and axed the tree near the base. the electrodes went off the charts, the plant was neurologically (water conducts electricty) responding to the butchering. same results with other smaller plants.

vegitarianism is just as cruel.
