How do you get rid of a toothache when over the counter medications and gels don!

Question:

Answers:
The best thing for tooth pain at home is to take 800 mg of Ibuprofen which is prescription strength. you can take this every 6-8 hrs as needed for pain. It has an anti-inflammatory in it so it will work better than Tylenol or aspirin. Be careful not to overuse Ibuprofen as it is harsh on the lining of the stomach and could cause problems. Bottom line is you are going to have to see your dentist if you are expericing tooth pain. More than likely there is infection in your tooth and you need an antibiotic. if left untreated, the infection will spread to other areas of your body causing further complications. If the Ibuprofen isn't giving you any relief, then there really is nothing else you can do as a 'home remedy'.

DO NOT . I repeat DO NOT place an aspirin near your tooth and allow it to dissolve! This could cause a burn making you have even more problems!

i've used plain old asprin when nothing else is available. just slip it between your gum and cheek at the bad tooth and let it dissolve. this won't cure it but at least you'll get some relief. next step would be to see a dentist.
