This is a question that is completly dependant on the person. Some people's metabolic cycles enable them to workout in the morning and some in the afternoon and some in the evening. Some also allow them to workout after eating or before eating or even some while eating believe it or not (rare). You need to do what is comfortable for you, what you can be consistent at doing and what feels best. Then just stick to it.

You really need to exercise with some food in your system. If you exercise on an empty stomach you'll lose energy fast - believe me. Don't exercise straight after eating though, give it an hour or so to let the food settle, remember that food can take as long as 8 hours to digest completely.
As for when to exercise - I personally feel I have more energy in the evening. I don't think it makes a difference - whatever time you exercise, you're still exercising your body.

That all depends on you! If you have the energy to workout in the morning without eating before hand that is a great way to get your body moving and burning all of your stored calories. You must eat immediately after your workout (within the hour to gain the most benefits from your exercise). If you don't have the energy to exercise in the morning then if the afternoon is just fine. A lot of people are tired from working all day and prefer to exercise first thing in the morning, this way they will not put it off. Whatever you decide must work for you and your body!
