what is coral calcium and does it have any side effects?!

Question:
I am researchng supplements for osteoarthritis and would like an unbiased response rather than the pharmaceutical company 'peddling their wares' so to speak!
Answers:
Coral calcium is the ground up shell of coral.
The people who sell it claim that your body is able to more efficiently absorb coral calcium than manufactured calcium found in vitamin tablets.
I don't know if that is true or not. I took coral calcium for about 6 months when I stopped drinking milk and eating milk-based products. I feel so much better after stopping eating milk and I did not notice any side effects from taking the coral calcium.
I stopped taking the coral calcium after I started eating more of the dark green veggies and now regularily drink soy milk which contains good amounts of calcium.

You would do best getting calcium from foods than from supplements which will always be harder to get nutrients from than the food source. I would suggest making sure that you get your calcium from a variety of sources rather than just focusing on a single source type (like dairy or supplements).
