How are std tests performed on males?!
Question:
my boyfriend and i want to get tested for stds before we move our relationship forward. the problem is he is terrified of needles. I know females can be tested during a pap smear, so i'm wondering if there is anyway he can get tested without being injected.
Answers:
For the gonorrhea/chlamydia part - the standard is through a urethral swab. Very uncomfortable for the guy. For HIV and Hep B and C, it is through blood tests. There is a rapid test out there that is based on saliva. It is used mostly as a screening test. Syphillis (rarer) is detected through a blood test. Certain other STDs would also be through blood tests.

Depends on what they are testing for specifically..They can take blood or they have a very tiny little swab that is placed at the opening of the penis..It's left ther for 1 minute and then put in a sterile medium for transport to the lab..

The urethral swabs will test for chlamydia and gonorrhea, but HIV can only be tested by blood (though I did hear about experimental salivary testing somewhere.)
hate to tell you this but they use a needle inserted into the penis to get a sample.
He needs to get over it. a needle is just a pinch . he can close his eyes. i just did one a couple weeks ago. Blood is the best medium to test everything that is hidden inside.
