why is it that stupid people always have the most interesting questions? i'm a stupid person (i just realized) and i ask questions that people can't answer. can you answer this one?
Why do exit signs only have one red lightbulb on the right hand side instead of two red lightbulbs so that its easier to see incase of fire?

Cost effective. Red bulbs are generally the cheapest and would acheive the same effect regardless if it was 1 or 2 lights in there.

one red bulb is easy to notice.if you use more than one, people might not think it is not an exit sign but instead just a decoration light.
The side of the red lightbulb is the direction to go to exit the building. Some exit signs have the light on both sides, that means there is an exit from the building in either direction.
First, am I to be considered "stupid" for answering a "stupid" person's question? You are not "stupid" and there are no "stupid" questions - because if you had a mental problem you wouldn't be asking questions - in the first place (or if you were "mental" and you asked questions, they wouldn't make sense)!! What difference does it make how many lights there are in or near an exit sign? After all, the only thing one needs to know is, exactly, that it is an "exit" sign! A position, place, etc. where one may "get out" of "wherever", "whenever"! Don't you agree?
