Painful swelling?!

Question:
For the last year I've had very painful swelling in my legs. I've also had terrible pain in my right buttock. I don't know if the two are related but the both started around the same time. I've gone to 6 doctors, but I have an HMO so it's a frustrating joke to keep getting passed along. I've had blood tests, all negative. Neurological tests. Negative. I am in great shape and play a lot of sports, but this started when I was playing a lot of sports in the tropics and not stretching or drinking gatorade. I've cut foods out of my diet, do drink lots of water every day, have never eatten much salt other than drinking dt. soda. If I go play soccer, when I talk my shin guards off, you can read the name of the sports company on my leg there is so much of an indentation. Socks have become painful to wear. Any ideas??

You played sports in tropics? What about a type of parasite? It's called venus insufficiency. Could be caused by liver, heart, or kidney disease. You say you cut foods out of your diet? That's also a cause. Check out sites below for good infomation.

I would get a Doppler ultrasound done on your legs. You want to eliminate the possiblity of something dangerous like Deep vein Thrombosis or clotting. Have your blood pressure checked. Get some Deep tissue massage done on the entire leg(s) and buttock( Gluteous Maximus, medius, and minimus) area to relieve tightness. Attention to Sciatica nerve area important.

I just finished massage therapy school, and massage could be beneficial as long as you get a doctors clearance first. I would suggest getting your regular doctor to refer you to an endocrinologist if you have not already done so. If you go to one, be sure you have collected all your previous lab work, etc. to take with you to save time and give him something to compare to. I know it can be very frustrating to get doctors to take time to listen to you, so you might want to prepare some notes to give to the doctor as sort of a medical diary, with as much of your factual history as you can recall. Good luck and I hope you find a solution soon.
