Go lie down, close your eyes, and take a nap. It always works for me!

First, make sure it is a migraine. Migraine doesn't mean bad headache. Migraines are vascular headaches (blood vessel in the head is constricted), and it causes visual phenomenon, nausea, severe pain on one side, and it gets worse when you lay down.

These things help me:
Get in a hot shower for as long as I can stand it or until the hot water runs out. I run it on the spot to dilate the blood vessels. That also helps me relax. Pain relievers don't do anything for migraines. I also use a heating pad on the spot. I get in a recliner so that I can sleep sitting up, and I make the room as dark as possible. I have tried sage tea because it is a natural remedy, but I don't know if it worked, because I do all that. I'm sure the tea won't knock it out, but it may do something to dilate the blood vessels.

I figured out which foods and stress situations trigger migraines, and I learned how to recognize when I am susceptible. They say they become less and less frequent as your arteries harden. I don't know about that, but now that I am over 40, when I do get one, it usually has little or no pain now--just the flashes of light, vision problems, and nausea.

Think about your emotions. What is bothering you? Who is bothering you? What is your mind trying to distract you from? Think long and hard about it.

The MindBody Prescription - Dr. John Sarngo, MD

These are the things that almost always help me. Try to do them before your migraine gets any bigger. First, I will take a hot shower and I will stay in there until either i can't stand the heat, or the hot water runs out.
Then, I will sit in a recliner because if you lay down it will get worse. I will put a heating pad on the spot on my head (don't make it too hot) and drink 2 glasses of water. Then i will sleep in the recliner.
This should at least ease the pain.
You can repeat the steps as needed.
