Who knows how lactic acid builds up in the body (specifically the muscles) and h!

Question:

Answers:
Lactic acid is built up only in the muscles through aerobic (as opposed to anaerobic) exercise, produced from the chemical reaction of lactose (a type of sugar), and oxygen, that produces energy that the muscles use. It is gotten rid of by stretching muscles so they are well oxygenated before and after exercise, keeping a steady pace, and by normal body functions. Crocodiles cannot get rid of it easily and so cannot run long distances before they get a fatal acid dose.

Other Answers:
Lactate is constantly produced during normal metabolism and exercise but does not increase in concentration until the rate of lactate production exceeds the rate of lactate removal. The rate of removal is governed by a number of factors including: monocarboxylate transporters, concentration and isoform of LDH and oxidative capacity of tissues. The concentration of blood lactate is usually 1-2 mmol/L at rest, but can rise to over 20 mmol/L during intense exertion.
A massage removes it from the muscles, and drinking lots of water removes it from the body.

Lactic acid is a by product of muscle activity just like carbon monoxide from your cars exhaust. If you exercise to the 'burn', then you're doing too much. It's considered bad news for muscles cuz you really are burning and scarring them. Water is good and massage too. Try a nice whirlpool bath or massage if you have problems.
