Question:
Hosw bad does this hurst, do they give you meds, its a spinal epidual and then an cortizone injection there the bulge and tear is on the lower side on back i have been going ther therapy but there is not a response so they are going this route and i am very scared
Answers:
It's not too bad at all. What feels a little funny is that you will be sitting up and bent forward all the way.

You will get some numbing medication and the rest will feel like a regular shot to you.

They will wait for the epidural to work first (about 15 mins and then give the cortisone).

don'T be alarmed i had it done there was no pain.sometimes it works but sometimes tit doesn't but there is nothing to fear

ive had this done more times than id like to count for 3 herrniated discs in my back i go every 6 months and get a anti inflamotory and steriods injected

what they do is give a local anistetic first that numbs the area and then procced to do the injection as for it hurting besides the local the worst its ever hurt is a tightening feeling like a muscle spasm in my lower back

after the injection they make you lay there for a while to amke sure your legs are loosing feeling and you take it east the rest of the day i usually have a bruise about the size of football at the injection sight afterwards

all and all its really not that bad even though it really sounds like it is

i just had that done last week,lidocaine&prednisone..you feel numb for a while..the next day you may feel a little bruised, but it goes away in a few days.i had it done on tues.by sat i was good to go!! lots of energy!weeeeee! i take pain meds for my condition, and after i get my shots i dont need them as much, for a while anyway..when the initial shot is done,it a "little" painful when my doc pushes the medicine in to my muscle, but only for a second..suggestion, a few hours after you get them done soak in a tub w/2 packets of johnsons foot soap,it works wonders,i dont know what is in it but its very relaxing.

epidural injections done by a good pain management specialist doctor is not painful and at most discomforting. you could get some medication by IV during the procedure to help you calm down and relieve any discomfort, the procedure takes less than 5 minutes in most cases. don't worry, you will be fine.
