is it possible to get an xray to check if my growth plates closed, or not. wonde!

Question:

X-rays of the long bones will show the growth plates. You can see growth plates in the femur, tibia, fibula, humerus, ulna and radius. I have never done an x-ray to see if the plates are closed in order to determine further growth. If we are wondering about bone age, we do an x-ray of the hands/wrists for that.

What the heck are growth plates? I've never heard of them. Could you explain in more detail please?

Yes, an Xray of your pelvis would show if your still able to grow. However, because radiation carries a health risk, it may be unethical to expose you to the radiation for this purpose.

Best wishes.

It is most common to have an x-ray of your left hand and wrist to see if you growth plates are still open.

Also the growth plates on your pelvis are usually the last to fuse which is a good sign if you are finished growing. But a pelvis x-ray is not commonly used to check for growth plates.

You need a doctor to perscribe an x-ray for you to check this out. Ask you doctor about a bone age study (that is what the required x-rays are called) if you are really concerned.
