when taking the contraceptive pill can you take other medication and will it pre!

Question:

Answers:
The effectiveness of the Pill is lowered when taken with certain medications, including antibiotics, anti-seizure, tuberculosis, and migraine medications. If you are taking any medications, tell your clinician. When taking medications that may interfere with BC, consider adding a backup method of birth control, like condoms and spermicide. As with all drugs, it is useful to inform all your medical providers if you are using hormonal birth control. http://www.fwhc.org/birth-control/thepill.htm

If you are taking oral antibiotics of any kind, be sure to use an additional back-up method such as condoms, spermicidal suppositories, VCF etc. during the entire time you are taking the medication and for a full 7 days afterward. http://www.wellesley.edu/Health/pill.html

Oftentimes the blame for contraceptive failure is placed on a short stint of antibiotic use. Anecdotal reports abound regarding the reduction in pill effectiveness caused by antibiotics such as ampicillin and tetracycline, but no studies have been able to prove these claims. Studies are clear, however, regarding drug interactions between birth control pills and anti-seizure medications and those drugs used to treat tuberculosis. Backup contraception would be warranted when taking phenytoin, carbamazepine, primidone, ethosuximide, methylphenobarbital, paramethadione, Phenobarbital, topiramate, rifampin, or griseofulvin and ST. I have never heard of that, but I have heard of diarrhea so bad that they flushed through your system too fast to be effective.

Only the doctor can tell this to you. Only the doctor can prescribe you the contraceptive pills looking at your age, health and deseases!

It depends what medicine.
Most medicines that are negative to contraceptives say so in the accompanying leaflet. A lot of Anti-biotics have such an effect.

YES! taking antibiotics will cancell out the 'pill'. wait at least a week after taking antibiotics before having sex again - and use something else anong with the 'pill'for about a month.
this is how a lot of pill babies come to be

Some questions are just too important to ask random people on the internet, ask a doctor!

yes definately. you should not expect the contraceptive pill to be effective if you are taking antibiotics. also st johns wort suppliments stop them from working. also if you take them with the common acnae medication oxy tetracycline (which is an antibiotic) the combination kills all the gastrointestinal flora whch can then give you irritable bowel syndrome permenantly. if you are taking the contraceptive pill and you have to take other pills for something then you must tell either your doctor or pharmacist so that they can alter the medication if there is a risk of the two pills being incompatable. many unwanted pregnancies have arisen from not knowing these facts.
