stage 3 lung cancer?!

Question:
My dad was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer in Feb. 05. He had the left lung removed in March 05 and had four chemo treatments in the next four months. He has been doing pretty good until the last month. He has been having severe pain in his upper back and shoulders. Anyone know what can cause this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Answers:
It could be a number of things. I do know that the patients that were post op from that surgery that I had had a lot of pains in their chest and back. Please make sure he is bringing the pains to his oncologist attention! and that it hasn't spread through his body. I am sorry that he is sick and I wish you all the best

I hope he is seeing his doctor. In his situation it is not possible to speculate on pain.

The cancer spreading, he should be on a morphine/di-morphine injector machine that he can control himself. There's no point in worrying about over medicating at this point.

I am sorry -- I know what it is like when a parent has lung cancer.

My best advice is to work with his oncologist. It is important that he work through the issue with his doctor. Some possibilties related to the cancer include: a) cancer has spread to a new area; b) there is some sort of post-op infection; c) he is having fluid build up around in his pleural cavity. Or it could be totally unrelated -- arthritis, an ortho injury, etc.

The point is that a doctor can help him work through it -- even a md could only guess without a physical exam and likely lab tests. The cause will help dictate the treatment -- anything from pain meds to surgery to a drain to antibiotics to.

I hope he has brought this to the attention of his doctor, one of the most important items is pain control, lack of it is very unneccessary. Find a good pain control physician that specializes in this field. Ask questions, be assertive and keep the physician and everyone involved with his care and treatment informed. Also, hospice, is excellent with pain management. My husband had lung cancer and bone cancer, since has passed 2/10/ There are so many things I learned as his caregiver and if you are his caregiver, then please be certain that you find cancer support group for you as well as your father.

this is a great alternative to chemotherapy and radiation: i have a link to a website for a breakthrough. i know you may be skeptical but japanese researchers have discovered a new breakthrough for cancer. dont worry, it may sound too good to be true but just keep reading. unlike radiation and chemotherapy (when the attack bad cells, they also attack good cells), this new breakthrough will only attck bad cells and boost your immune system. your probably thinking that im crazy right now, but if your really desperate to survive, why not at least give it a try? besides, its very recent studies and discovery. just check out this site:

Could be pinched nerve or cancer. Need an MRI of C spine. Don't panic.
