I was stabbed- questions for a doctor or someone with knowledge.?!

Question:
I was stabbed in the chest, about and inch and a half below my nipple, and way too close to my heart. My lung callapsed and I lost two litters of blood. I am fine now, but the problem is that I had emergency surgery, and some of the muscles that were in proximity to the stab wounds and the surgical incisions are non-funcional, they won't flex. My lattimus Dorsi won't flex, and my abdominal muscles under the stab wound won't flex. Why is this? I was told an artery was cut by the stab, so is that why half of my abs won't flex? The abs under the area that wasn't stabbed flex fine, but the other ones look deformed and won't flex all the way. Will my abdominal muscles recover? are they just recovering from the trauma and will eventually return to normal? Please help!!

hmm..by the way wot yer saying.it si diffcult for anyone to tell u like this.but yeah ..if the position was below yer nipple i guess the most dammage would be done to the anterior cutaneous nerves of thorax.which are the nerve supply to the the abdomen..it is all coz of thoracic nerves . but the doctor who did yer surgery must be knwing about it.but i amjst giving u a idea of wot might have happned..rest ..lcik the site to learn more.rest u may and maynot recover for this..depending on the extent the stab took place.but trust me u gonan be fine..and lead a gud life. best of luck !

Sounds like nerve damage. You should be able to retrain the muscles through extensive practice. If an artery was cut, your body will grow more smaller pathways to help compensate.

The artery being cut has most probably stopped the blood supply to the nerves in that area and they will have died as a result, therefore no messages getting through to make your muscles contract. As for it coming back, that is hard to say, generally you'd say most probably not but there are all kinds of new procedures now that can possibly reverse this so i would look into that if I were you.

Hope this has helped you out.

the person to ask would be your doctor or the surgeon who operated on you, no one else on here not even a doctor is going to know for sure unless they knew exactly what was done and what kind of damage was done

I'm sorry to hear you were stabbed, but am glad that you are here to talk about it. I am a nurse and think you may indeed loose some of those muscle movements and their previous contours. The best person to ask would be the surgeon who worked on you as he/she would know the extent of your injuries and the expected results of the corrective surgery. Bring someone with you (a trusted friend) to help listen to the doctor's answers to your questions (bring a printout of your question here).
