Depends on which type. There's Good Cholesterol (HDL) and Bad Cholesterol (LDL) and total cholesterol.

- LDL level should be less than 100 milligrams per deciliter of blood:
Less than 100 mg/dL = Optimal
100 to 129 mg/dL = Near Optimal/ Above Optimal
130 to 159 mg/dL = Borderline High
160 to 189 mg/dL = High
190 mg/dL and above = Very High

Your total blood cholesterol will fall into one of these categories:
Desirable — Less than 200 mg/dL
Borderline high risk — 200–239 mg/dL
High risk — 240 mg/dL and over

HDL level should be above 40 milligrams per deciliter (40 mg/dL) of blood:
