It all depends on where it is and whether its malignant or not. It could turn out to be nothing and nothing is done, or it could turn out to be bad and need surgery plus followup treatments. Listen to everything discussed about it and ask all the questions you can. The only stupid question is the one you dont ask. A good suggestion is to follow up with a second opinion on it.
