Quitting carbohydrates is not a great answer for anyone.
Diet and exercise are the only safe option for losing weight and most importantly keeping the weight OFF. There is a reason the atkins diet is not as popular as it once was, thats because after you start eating carbohydrates again you will gain the weight back!
To safely lose weight try a few free sites which can give you a diet program you can live with the rest of your life and not deprive yourself of anything.
http://www.sparkpeople.com
http://www.caloriesperhour.com
I recommend these sites as I have lost 22 pounds in 2.5 months. I dont deprive myself of anything and I've built muscle enough that I've lost 11cm around my abdomen and 6.5 centimeters around my hips.
There is also http://www.weightwatchers.com which has an easily followed points program. I dont find this to be ideal as you can avoid getting all the nutrients your body needs. The site is also not free
Another site ediets.com can be helpful, although costly. It also charges more if you want an exercise program to go along with your dieting.
Regular cardio exercise 30 minutes - 60 minutes 5x per week and weight training (push-ups, weights, sit - ups etc) 2x-3x weekly will build muscle and burn fat.
Aim for 2 pounds a week (1kg) to safely lose weight and keep weight off for good.
Good luck to you!
