Why does poison ivy effect some people' and some other people are immune?!

It is usually caused by haptens that combine with proteins in the skin of some people to produce an immune response. Not everyone has those particular haptens(amino acid lysine)A hapten is a substance that doesn't cause the formation of antibodies by itself but does so when combined with a carrier molecule.
