why do nonsmokers try to dictate what smokers can and cannot do?!

Question:

Answers:
In my opinion I believe it stems from their fears of second hand smoke and what it may do to them. Non smoking advertisments only serve to reinforce this fear.

Because, apparently, there are more of us than you. And, in this country, majority rules. Doesn't make it right.

we don't dictate what you should or shouldn't do, but we suggest that you don't infringe on our right to breathe in air that doesn't smell nasty. Go away from us and smoke where we can't smell it or smell like you. It makes me mad when I get dressed up nicely, put on some nice expensive perfume, and then come home smelling like a stale $4 carton of cigarettes. Smokers should have a little more concern for those of us who don't smoke and want to be cancer free.

I'm assuming you are referring to laws that prohibit smoking in public buildings and the like.

Quite simply: we choose not to smoke, so we would rather smokers not impose their choice on the rest of us. There is strong scientific evidence that second hand smoke can cause cancer, and we non-smokers are really trying to avoid that. Besides, some of us have allergies, and that smoke really does a number on us.

I am sorry if that inconveniances any smoker, and I really am not being sarcastic here. I would like to see government buildings and workplaces and the like have some nice areas where people can go to smoke - however, I do strongly believe that a non-smokers right to good health trumps a smokers right to light wherever they want.

i am a non-smoker and i don't like it when people smoke around me because sometimes i can't control the fact that i have to stand around them, and i personally don't like inhaling secondhand smoke, however, that smoker has a choice to light up around me, and they choose to anyways. it is common consideration. not only that, but people who are close to you (friends/family) may be concerned for your health

cause we are tired of breathing YOUR addiction at work, in the car, and at resteraunts. YOU are the one with the problem and we shouldnt have to suffer for it

if you lived next door to noisey neighbours who kept you awake all night, would you not go round to their house and ask them to turn down the music.well it is similar, in your own home(unlike the music) you can smoke as much as you like, but when it comes into contact and interferes with someone elses life then you can but ask for the same consideration of a smoker refraining from polluting your air space. I personally worked in two seperate companies where i was subject to passive smoking and ended up on both occaisions with smoke related chest infections, and as i suffer with poor health try to avoid smoke at all times.one cigarette can polute the air space of a whole room of non-smokers.do you think that is fair?

It just is hypocrisy, arrogance, pride and (false) moralism!
Every time somebody thinks to be in the right, he erects to judge and adviser!
He is able to condemn you because you’re smoking while says nothing about the great chimney that in the back is continuously emitting poisonous smoke.
Unluckily, brain doesn’t often work freely!
OKAY??

Because there are many cured smokers in the political arena and in trying to stay off cigarettes they want them banned in every civic building. They have saved a ton of money, euros here in Ireland, and hence would love to see the rest of the nation and country saving away to their hearts content. Now there are also a few very logical reasons. One's health improves when cutting down on cigarette smoke. Unfortunately they have not closed down pubs and wine bars even though whole families become totally dysfunctional as a result of alcoholism, fathers have incest with their children while under the influence of alcohol and the actual effects of drinking are far more apparent and much statistics have been written on this. But many politicians own pubs and taverns and why close down their god-given access to accumulate great wealth.
