How can Phillip Morris preach about the evils of smoking, and still keep produci!

I quit smoking in 1967 and couldn't be happier. I am healthy at 72. Smoking killed my father, sister & brother-in-law, my mother-in-law, her sister, my cousin, and I don't know how many other relatives and friends. I am now healthier than any of them were. None of my children, or their spouses smoke.
I like to wake up in the morning without gagging and coughing. I like to smell the fresk air and other great fragrances, and not the stale sick stench of old tobacco smoke.

First of all, the Supreme Court overrulled the EPA in 1998 stating that there was no evidence the ETS (2nd hand smoke) is harmful. Do a little research on that.
Second, whatever happened to freedom? Sure, you have the right to breathe clean air..however, you do not have a right to clean air everywhere. If you want clean air, you should choose a restaurant that is smoke free by choice, not by law. Where in the constitution does it state that you have to have the abillity to eat/drink everywhere and be happy with everything about it.
I think it is funny that people claim that they are thankful for the bans because 2nd hand smoke is so dangerous. LOL..if it is SO dangerous, WHY HAVE YOU BEEN GOING TO THOSE RESTAURANTS AND BARS? It is dangerous enough to stop us from doing it, but it wasn't dangerous enough to keep you from going in pre-ban, right?? Hmmm, interesting. You weren't willing to change your habits to 'save your life' but you are certainly willing to change others habits. Interesting point of view. I belive some of these quotes might shed some light on what kind of people think line that.
Ben Franklin once said : "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
So, all you people who belive it is right to restrict the rights of others are out in left field. If you do not like smoke, you should exercise YOUR freedom and choose an establishment that does not allow smoking.the gov't shouldn't enact laws that make a business owner be non-smoking. Where is the freedom in that?

Also, I am sure that most of you are familiar with the last part of this quote..the front of it is equally important. Patrick Henry: "Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!"
And I think most importantly, Clarence Darrow stated it quite well."You can only protect your liberties in this world by protecting the other man's freedom. You can only be free if I am free." In other words..watch out. If you let the gov't restrict my freedom, it will be knocking on your front door tomorrow - taking away your ability to do something that is dear to you!
Smoking didn't kill ANYONE!

they can keep selling them because ppl keep buying them. They have lobbyists in washington dc to make sure that they will not be taken off the market.
They're filling a market need and making money. Surely you can think of other products that are harmful to your health?

Good for you, my house reeks of smoke but no one else can smell it because they are smokers. My Mom can't even smell the strongest perfume - tells you something doesn't it?
It is there right to advertise there product. it is because of people like you that smoking is getting such a bad rap. It is far better than breathing exhaust in our great cities.
HE CAN PREACH ABOUT IT BECAUSE HE DOESNT SMOKE, HE JUST MAKES MONEY OFF OF PEOPLE WHO DO.
Money. They are only 'preaching the evils of smoking' because the government is forcing them to. Smoking is extremely dangerous to your health, everyone knows it. Phillip Morris can shrug off the dangers by saying it's a personal choice, nobody is being held down and forced to smoke. It's the same as alcohol. it can be extremely dangerous to your health, but people still do it.
They are still keeping their product out there, even by talking about the health benefits of NOT smoking. This is still a form of adveritsing, no matter how thinly veiled it is.
Good for you that you stopped. You were right to do so and you have probably saved your children while doing so!
They preach the evils of smoking because they HAVE too! Somewhere along the line they were sued by families of people who lost loved ones and as part of the verdict they are forced to place disclaimers and warnings to comply with the ruling. They are not doing it because they want people to stop smoking.

simple. it's called playing both sides. they appease the yapping ninnies crying out about "deadly products" with sympathetic ad campaigns, keeping the possibility of further lawsuits at bay, and make money back from their customers. that's right, willing customers. everybody knows tobacco is unhealthy, but a lot of people don't care about healthy. you know, eating meat causes cancer too. there are also a lot of people with lung cancer who don't smoke, and are not exposed to second hand smoke. could there be carcinogenic substances in our atmosphere? nah, of course not.
Phillip Morris cannot be serious! There must be a monetary reason why he is still producing deadly products and it is common knowledge that "the LOVE of money IS the route of all evils!!" (quote from good book) he is not real! He doesn't practice what he preaches, this means he IS a mighty stumblingblock to others trying to quit!! but guess what, those who will have the last laugh are the non-passive smokers! like yourself I hope and living in the countryside where the air is suppose to be quite clean?!
