Period helper?!

Question:
I am a late bloomer comparing to my classmates and friends. I got my period at 13 and a half while most of my classmates got it at age 10 to 12. It is so annoying when I get these every month and I am usually stressed out during it. I usually have a large amount and my period usually last about 7 days. But most of my classmates’ periods only lasts for 4 to 5 days. Is it normal to have 7 days and is there any ways to reduce the amount? Thanks!
Answers:
I'll worn you, I'm a guy, so I don't know from experience. I have though, listened and asked many questions of my female friends.

It is common to be 'stressed' during your period. My 24 year old girlfriend is almost always stressed, but I think she brings part of it on herself (your hormones are in flux, and you can't help that). My female friends that are the happiest are the ones that accept and embrasse their periods, they think it's great that they get to bare children and guys don't. It's all about attitude.

As for your flow, the amount varies A LOT. One of my friends simply 'spots' your underwear, but another one has so much flow that she's gone into the hospital because she was scared (they sent her home). The same female states that on her worst days she gets light headed.

The below link says 3-7 days is expected. As for reducing the flow, I can't help.

Oh, and when you get older and get out of this culture that wants to keep everything a secret, you'll talk openly with your friends about it.

Good luck and congratulations.

You're story is exactly like mine. I am much older than you are now, and I tell you don't be alarmed, and after a while you'll get used to the 7 days but I don't know of anyway to make it shorter.

no that is totally normal there is nothing you can do to change but let nature takes its course and don't feel that way everyone female is different there are no two people alike.

Everyone's body is different. Some people have short light periods while others have long heavy periods. It is completely normal but to reduce cramps and bloating try Midol. If you period is really bother some then talk to your paretns and gyno and see if you can take birth control. i wouldn't reccommend birth control unless your over 16 years old, but talk with your parents and see what they think. however, even birth control can make your period last that long but it reduces cramps, bloating, and the amount of period.

Everyone is a little different, and sometimes they can be heavier or less easy to time when they first start.

You'll get used to it. 7 days is a little bit longer than average, but don't worry, there are things that can be done.

For now just wait - they'll probably get shorter once they become regular. If not, the contracteptive pill has a number of positive side effects apart from helping you not get pregnant.

I'm not suggesting that you should start having sex by the way!

unfortunatley..the only way to reduce the length of your period is birth control pills. (which have many many bad side affects). Like you, I was a late bloomer, got it at 13 while everyone had been there and done that. Mine also lasts 6-7 days..which is not fun! The truth of the matter is soon you will get older and it wont be such a big deal.just something you as a woman, have to deal with. make sure you see a gyno.

Every woman is different some can last up to ten days. Some just completely flood for about 3 days (as in more than 3 pads in an hour). As for the amount you are having if you are going through 3 or more pads an hour you need to see the doctor. Also if you are feeling weak during your period you also need to see a doctor as you are probably anemic. It would not hurt start taking some iron. If you don't want to ask a parent to help ask the pharmacist which iron would be best, this is will help with the any anemia and stress you are having.

first of all ur not a late bloomer!! and yes its normal for a period to go for 7 days it will probably calm down the level of blood flow will calm down aswell, there is one thing you can do and that is going on the pill, the pill is not just a protective thing for sex it helps with fixing ur period aswell as acne aswell. other than that there is no way of controlling ur period. and its normal to stress easier during ur period coz all the hormones in ur body going around, try eat really healthy during pms and during ur period eat lots of vegs and fruits drinks lots of water stay away from junk food and maybe go for a walk every day u'll feel so much better

This is not unusual. Every single person varies. Some have cramps, others do not. Some have mood changes the week before (PMS), or mood changes during their period. Some last for 3 days and have light periods, others have heavy ones that last 7-10 days. It's also not uncommon to have periods that vary from month to month. You might notice that one month is heavier and longer than the other, or that you're more moody in one month than in the other. All of these things are affected by hormone fluctuations that occur throughout your monthly cycle. A final thing to consider is that periods can be weird and irregular when you first start getting them because this is something new that your body is going through.

Of course, if you're particularly concerned about something, the best thing to do is talk to a trusted adult, such as your mom, an aunt, a school nurse, or a doctor about your concerns.

well.. you are not a late bloomer.. I got it when I was 14.. My period lasts for long days too and i think it is very normal.. 7dayz are fine.. I don't really know a way to reduce it but yess of course.. I have the same problem as you and my mother gives me a Chinese herbal drink name "Yomeishu".. She says that it helps clean and "remove" the blood fast in the first few dayz so that there would be less blood on e last few remaining dayz.. It works sometimes for me.. My friend eats raw egg which can be gross but I am not sure if it wil help.. But Yess not to worry my sister.. itz perfectly normal.. =)

Your periods will probably keep changing until you're in your twenties. After that you'll pretty much stay the same - I started at 15 and it lasted about 6 days. Now in my mid twenties it's 2-3 days tops.

I find that exercise (I do about 45 mins a day) seems to reduce the amount and I know that if you go on the pill when you're older you can control your cycle, including stopping your period altogether.

You can't go on the pill until you've gone fully through puberty as it will mess up your body's development but it might be worth considering if this is still a problem for you in a few years time.

not really, it depends on your daily activity.

Put here are a few tips that worked for me for period pain, you will need it someday.

eat banannas or
Take a hot bath. this will reduse the pain, but make sure the water is as hot as what you can handle.

well everyone is different when it comes to mother nature. it's only natural that some women have more or less of a period. some women suffer more than others with the symptoms. my periods used to last for six days every month. had horrible cramping and mood spells. thankfully i don't have to worry about them anymore but what i did was drink alot of green tea and took some advil. that pretty much cured all the symptoms i had each month. i still drink green tea whenever i'm feeling down or tired. it works miracles. try drinking green tea three times a day on your next period and see for yourself how well it works.

13 is not really a late bloomer- I was 15 and my sister hasn't started yet and she'll be 17 soon-
also, 7 days isn't strangly long either- mine last 7 days too- annoying isn't it?
But, it's ok- some young girls do have shorter periods at first- just wait till you're all 18, they'll be complaining lol hang in there
