This is one where the jury is still out. I am skeptical of anything that is done for profit. Watch or read "The Corporation" and you will understand what I mean. Corporations are psychopathic in nature and fit the DSM-IV clinical guidelines for psychopathic behavior. Basically, they care nothing about you and only about the bottom dollar. That is why we have lawsuits that come out years later, when the company knew the dangers all along, i.e. smoking, teflon, aspartame, etc. I am on the side that would doubt they are safe, and I prefer not to be a human guinea pig. So, it really depends on your situation and how desperate you are.

There is great deal of bickering going on right now about this topic. In my opinion, they are perfectly safe. They are the same thing only synthetically cloned in a lab.
