If you are on a diet and are planning to eat a fatty meal, will taking laxatives!

Question:

Answers:
That is not a good way to control weight gain, it is abusive to your system. Yes, i think it will, but it is ill-advised. Try diet and exercise.

Other Answers:
No, you just lose water weight. It wont stop the actual food or fat absorption.

There are certain prescription drugs that you can get from a Dr that block the absorption of fat into your system. Maybe your Dr can help you.

No it won't prevent weight gain. I am a little concerned because taking laxatives for weight loss is considered bulemia nervosa. Anytime someone purges in the form of self-induced vomiting, taking diuretics (water pills) and laxatives it is hurting your body.

Try to not worry about the occassional "fatty meal" or try to cut the fat wherever possible like ordering the salad dressing on the side, gravies on the side and don't use butter or margarine on your bread.

I hope that you choose sensibly and not take laxatives at all unless you have a medical reason.

I have a masters degree in human nutrition and dietetics and will be taking the exam to be a registered dietitian in June (2006).

technically it can, but it's not recommended.. excess fiber will sit in your colon if you're not used to it and that could give you cramps and constipation..
Don't mess with your bowel.
Colon Cancer kills more people than AIDS and Breast Cancer combined..
One fatty meal is not going to ruin your diet.. Enjoy life..

Don't take any laxatives unless you are constipated. Even when you are on a diet it is OK to cheat now and then. You can eat anything you want as long as you don't overdue it. Eat just enough to satisfy you and leave the rest alone. When I go to a restaurant and eat something I know is not so good for me..I eat less than half of it and either have the waiter take it away immediately or pour water on my plate so I am not tempted to pick at it.

It will probably prevent weight gain, but its not very healthy at all. Try these tips which is what I do:

Drink a lot of water instead of soft drinks or alcoholic drinks. At least you won't be drinking any extra calories.

If you have some lime or lemon with the meal or in the water (do not add sugar), the acid may help break down the fats.

Add something healthy to the meal in addition to the fatty item: a salad, some vegetables.

Try to eat this meal early in the day, then a couple of hours later go work out: power walk (1 hr) or jog (20 - 30 min).
