Does the insulin pumps work well?!

Question:

Answers:
I agree with the previous poster. I love my pump. As far as "restricting oral intake"- as long as you count carbs accurately, you can really eat whatever you want. I take 1 unit to 22 grams, and if I count carbs well, I can eat 100 grams and still end up in range. It's great.

I have one rate I usually use, and temporary rates for background insulin I can set if I am being active. This really helps prevent lows. It's great.

I also like being able to set different amounds of insulin for different times of day. I used to wake up low all the time, not anymore!

Overall, it works well.

A few links from the post before mine don't work. The links for the pump companies are:

Yes they do, they are certified by the FDA.I wouldn't skrimp and by a cheap one or anything though and do keep an insulin backup as they can fail.

ONLY if you work your fanny off controlling your oral intake and getting enough exercise. It is not a magic solution, seriously. I have patents for whom it works just fine and others who've had to be taken off it. Before you consider the pump, have a long, honest talk with your endocrinologist. Then decide.

Yes, but you have to
1) get a pump with good costomer support and a good warenty (4 years is normal)
2) Make sure the basal program is set up for your body
3) Have good insulin
4) count carbohydrates and give yourself approprate insulin 5) Change the infusion set regularly
6)change low batteries.

I love my pump to death, and I honestly wouldnd't be here without it. Using it properly is key, but it gives me the freedom I didn't have when I took shots. If I know the carbohydrates in a food, I can just bolus, and eat. For excersize or illness, I can adjust the insulin i get without much work.

I have an amimus which has 4 basal programs, caculates insulin based on carbohydrates and is accurate to .05units of insulin. There are some draw backs, though. The insulin resivior only holds 200 u (2mL), and it constantly comes unprimed.

If you're thinking about one, do some reasearch and pick the right one of you! Good luck!
