my child has painful oral blisters. what can ease his pain?!

Question:
pediatrician said it was viral, suggested mixing benadryl and milk of magnesia and apply on the inside of his mouth but that didnt work. he cant fall asleep. any brighter ideas out there?
Answers:
it's not very tasty but it does help heal the blisters quickly - warm water with about 1 teaspoon of salt, rinse the mouth several times a day - have your son hold the liquid in his mouth for several seconds and then spit it out. try not to rinse with regular water.

diet is usually a big factor in mouth sores, make certain he is not eating too much acidic fruit or candy.

indians use the sage tea,, put a teaspoon in water and bring to a boil ,and cool some till safe ,then rinse his mouth ,its used for thrush and should help dry it ,,,an olde dude ,,thats part cherokee

um i get those 2 and my orthodontist says that theyre ulcers. i apply anbesol 2 it. im 12, so it might be he same thing. anbesol is like the liquid version of orajel, so it numbs it. i've tried a lot of stuff that didn't work 2, but go 2 a grocery or drug store and look for a lil' glass bottle of orange liquid called Anbesol. that should help it! hope it helps!

try gentia of violet. If they still make it. Also if he is old enough to rinse and spit you can make a rinse of peroxide .or warn salt water.that might help with the healing.Sucking on popsicles during the day will make his mouth more comfortable. There is a rinse that they make now that they use when children have oral thrush. ask your doc about that too. Oh he must be so miserable. Good luck.

Any chance of rubbing toothpaste like Crest or Colgate over the blisters? I know that works for cold sores, I don't know if it would work for blisters. Basically its a paste that will keep the sore from being rubbed against by the teeth which just further aggravates it.

I hope your son gets to feeling better soon!

DO NOT put toothpaste on it. SLS or sodium lauyrel sulfate, a major ingredient of toothpaste can hinder healing of oral ulcers. Look for the toothpate Biotene that says it is for Dry Mouth is the only one that I have found without SLS. I would recommend the salt water rinse to clean and promote healing and you can look in the toothpaste aisle and they have what is called Canker Cover but you can only use if he is older than 5.
