having an mild athsma attack.how do i get back to normal breathing without medic!

Question:
it's too late at night to go anywhere for help, plus i really don't have insurance for a trip to the emergency room, or cash to cover it, and i don't have an inhaler or epi-pen. don't think it's really life-threatening, but i'm getting very uncomfortable. wondering if there's anything i can do to resume normal breathing using hosehold items or such?
Answers:
Breath in slowly breath out SLOWLY make it a goal to see how long you can take that breth in slow and out slow, but mostly in okay Remeber your fine you are in control. DO this untill you can hold your breath in. You will be just Fine:)! Your going to be okay!

From my first aid training you should at least have an inhaler. The only other thing we were taught was to sit down calmly and concentrate on the breathing.

drink some coffee, serious it may help a mild attack

Try a tblspoonful of mustard

Heat up some water, then breathe in the steam. This should help open up your nasal passages/lungs a bit. Btw, sorry to hear about your situation, I wish there was more I could do to help.

I am a nurse practitoner. You can try a hot, steamy bathroom. that can help with the airway spasms, but not the inflammation going on. there really isn't much else you can do without a rescue inhaler. You really should consider an ER if this doesn't help.

I haven't had an attack in a while but if the attack was mild I could usually stop it by calming down, stopping whatever I was doing, try to breathe (slowly), drinking something (some water or soda) and resting for a while.

Glad to know you are OK now. I'd go out and get me some medicated oil and keep it handy for times like these. It's basically good for a variety of things not just mild attacks but also for headaches, muscle ache, mosquito and ants bites etc.

HI,
U CANT CONTROL AN ASTHMA ATTACK ONLY WITH HOUSHOLD ITEMS, TRY TO GEN AN INHALER N USE IT LIKE THIS:

1.- 2 PUFFS EVERY 10 MINUTES FOR ONE HOUR OF SALBUTALMOL 100 MCG INHALER

2.- MEASURE YOUR VEF 1 WITH AN SPIROMETER SHOULD BE BETTER BUT IF U DON T HAVE ONE, THEN CLINICAL SYMPTOMS SHOULD BE CONTROLLED N GIVE U ENOUGH TIME TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL.

3.- SOME ASTHMATICS HAVE NEBULIZER AT HOME N USE FENOTEROL 5 DROPS ON 3 OR 4 ML OF CL NA 0.9%

the best traet is inhaler and for prevention of irreversible fibrosis in the lung it is better to take an glucocorticoid.
