Help! My muscles are so tight and weak!?!

Question:
I do step aerobics with weights a lot. I used to do it about 5-6 days a week. I've recently backed down to every other day and I still have the same problems. My muscles (especially in my legs) are so tight, I cannot loosen them up. I try to stretch often, but it doesn't seem to help. On top of this, I sometimes feel like I'm getting weaker, not stronger. Some days my workouts are hard because my muscles feel so weak. And many times, the tighness makes it hard to sleep at night without taking some Advil. I've been working out for over 8 months now, and it's been like this the whole time. Is there anything I can do to to losen up a bit?
Answers:
Whee! Sounds like you are overtrained. yes, it is possible. Type in "symptoms of overtraining" and I'll bet you will be amazed at how your symptoms correlate. So instead of getting better, you are actually getting worse, huh? Well, try some variety. First thing I'd do is get a sports massage to loosen up. they aren't that comfortable sometimes, but it will help you out. Second, try some yoga classes. You will probably be really bad at it at first, but stick with it and you will improve like I have. I couldn't even touch my toes at first. Third, even though you may like your class a lot, do other things to get better balance in your fitness routine and you will be much happier and healthier for it. Good Luck!!

try swimming. there are many benefits from swimming and it should help you loosen up a but or also try running a couple of miles. That always helps me.

Whoa, sounds like you're in overdrive. If you want your muscles to get stronger a grow, you MUST give them a time to rest. The muscles actually grow during that rest period. So you should either do it every other day, or work different sets of muscles on different days (eg. Monday, Wed, Fri legs/ Sun/Tues/Thurs arms, Saturday rest). I think this will allow them to grow properly and may loosen them up to.

And make sure you really do devote a lot of time to stretching both before and after you work out.

Also make sure you're eating enough healthy food, especially protein. If you don't have a complete, balanced diet, that may explain why you're feeling weaker.

Before you do any more, get a checkup from your doctor and explain this to him/her. You should not be getting weaker and need to rule out any physical problems.

Hot baths (soaking) can help loosen tight muscles.

Have you cut down on what you are eating?
Lack of certain vitamins etc or just a lot less food can cause this

Are you pushing yourself too hard each time you exercise ?

See your doctor you may need medication or phsiotherapy to treat any hidden problems.

Well lady, i congratulate for being so hard and tough and arrive to this muscular state whicch is wonderful, the only thing is that you are now over trained, take a couple of weeks of severe resting and make nothing more than elastic training, slow and easy, you should do this after every training for the muscles don´t become this way.

Rest and proteins, meat, milk and eggs will work miracle for you, just stop completely before yu can have an injury, and next time you will notice the satge of the body before it happens, to rest is so important as exersie, when you start again, do it slowly, every 2 weeks and maintain your food acording to your training.

My best whishes, you should send me a picture of your legs.lol

One other idea.. sometimes weakness is a sign of a deficincy.. call your doctor and explain the problem, they can do a little blood work and make sure that your mineral a blood count are in normal limits.. if they are a bit off it can cause this weakness that your describing. If they are in normal limits, try switching the routine, and a good jacuzzi soak to the end of the workout, and try something different like water aerobics,,, they seem really simple, but man they kick my but every time!

i think ur in overdrive

I don't think your case has anything to do with diet or exercise. First you should go for moderate exercise, swimming and some breathing exercises as well. To built muscles and feel stronger you only need half an hour a day. But you should see a doctor and ask about fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome, a condition that gives exactly the symptoms you are having.it's not life threatening but if you have you feel weak, stiffness, tired all the time. It's related to the immune system and the causes are still not clear.if you don't feel like rushing to a doctor buy a book (there's several on the shelves on the subject). Check for symptoms so hen you see a doctor it will help a lot. Besides if you have that condition the above recommendations in terms of exercises are exactly the ones you will need. Hey Hey ! slow down bud.. I'm for real you have to give your muscles a day or 2 rest in between exercise or they will never get better or more toned BC they need a day to do so. Its a proven fact so work you upper body and your lower body every other day and rest one day out of the week. Hot tubs and warming lotion like icy hot or atomic balm will warm your muscles to stretch and make sure you take a hot bath if you cant get a hot tub. Stretching is the best thing to do and the best of all REST for a while i am serious i know you love to exercise but take a week off till your muscles get better than start back at the rate i told you up above I get sore tight muscles often;-) try what i said.

stretch, swimming would probably help too!
