The 28 pill pack contains 21 active pills - 7 white, 7 light blue and 7 dark blue, all of which contain hormones. You take those for 3 weeks. The last week is the 7 green pills, which have no hormones and are sometimes referred to as "inactive." You are still protected from pregnancy (assuming you take the pill at the same time, every day) when you take the green pills in the last week of the pack. Hope that helps.

The dark blue pills have Estradiol - hormone estrogen (the stuff that makes your skin nice). Lo has 25 mgs and the Tri-cyclen has 35 mg.
