Why is death scary?!

Because even though many people think they know what is on the other side, no one is 100% certain, including born again Christians. It scares them too.

I think it's because we really don't have control over it. Everyone likes to be in control over what happens, and this is something we can't control.
Because it's the end of real world. You would never able to do the thing you like, or see the one you love ever again.
Because people fear the unknown.
Reality is probably because of the fear of the unknown and not having control over what is happening. I have seen a lot of death (I am a nurse) and I'll tell you one thing that I seen quite often is once a family member has told that person "it's OK you can go now, we know you love us and we love you" the fear in their eyes almost disappears.
Because though we may not always like what we have or do or see in life, at least we know what it's about. Death is an unknown and how you feel about it is a question of your belief in what happens to you after you die. If you are really afraid and can't live a happy life because you are so obsessed with it, get help. You must learn to live one day at a time and enjoy the moment you are in. You must come to terms with death or your fears will overtake you.

Death is scary because it will happen to all of us and you fear that some day you will be faced with it. I think it is the fear of dying rather death itself that makes it scary. Live your life and try not worry. It will happen, but don't let it run your life.
There was a story of a woman, who I heard about in the news long ago, who died because she saw that the house across from her was on fire. She feared that the fire was going to kill her, and she died anyways. Not because of the fire, but because she was feared dying. It's scary stuff.
We are born with the instinct to survive, which naturally makes us avoid situations where we could die. Also, we see people die and it looks unpleasant so we fear the process. Most people don't fear being dead, they fear the dying part which is often painful and undignified.
As has been said, no one knows for complete surity what happens or where we go after we die. Therefore we fear it. A good way to help you get over this is maybe try going to church or if you do already go to church try going to come different churches and see what they all have to say about life after death or as some say about the end of all life which is death.
I belong to the LDS church and we have many beliefs about what happens after we die, but i do also like to look at what other churches think too. i believe what our church says, but i too am still scared of dying so you are in no way alone.
