Will a pacifier make my toddler's teeth crooked?!

Question:

Answers:
They haven't for millions and millions of other children. So if his/hers does come out crooked it is probably NOT the pacifiers fault.

Other Answers:
not untill a certain age i've seen that after a long period of time if their not off the pacifier or the do the thumb sucking the teeth start to come outward instead of down.

If she is not to old it will only prevent her form putting other things in her mouth.

I was concerned about this, too. My pediatrician told me not to worry until a child is 4 or older. It should not make a difference until then. Good luck!

Proud Mama. :)

I think crooked teeth mostly come from your genes. I kept my pacifier until I was five, my brother and sisters hated the things, but so far I'm the only one in the family who hasn't needed braces.

if he/she doesn't have any teeth yet, you shouldn't worry, but if teeth are starting to grow, i would stop letting him/her use it. I don't have any kids yet but my mom always says when a child begins to have teeth, to stop letting them suck on their thumbs or fingers, and pacifiers because teeth are very tender and vulnerable to movement other than on their own.

Constant sucking can cause damage to the baby teeth and permanent teeth and the jaw. Weaning from the thumb or pacifier should begin between the ages of two and four so that the child has completely stopped the habit by the time the first permanent teeth come in. I've listed a link to the American Dental Association's website for more info. Good luck.
