Is EMDR an effective treatment for abuse victims? How many sessions does it take!

Question:
Therapy has not been working for me and I just wondered how EMDR has worked for anyone else.
Answers:
I've done it with my therapist before. And yes, it does work. Slowly but surely. It takes time. But it trains your unconscience mind to think in ways you never thought possible. It is worth a try. seriously. What have you got to lose. I am doing much better in my therapy because of it. I've been doing it for about a year now. You'll see results too i'm sure, but you just need to be patient. if you want to talk to me about it i'm here to listen. you can email me or IM me if you want. I can tell you about my experience with it.

Other Answers:
Studies have shown that EMDR is effective. They don't know how it works, but it does. Be careful though, you should always find a therapist trained in EMDR. I worked with abuse victims and you might also look into trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TFCBT). I have read promising things about it.

If therapy has not worked for you, have you tried switching therapists? are you open to medication? Sometimes, medication can get you to a point where you are able to deal with some your trauma issues.
