I believe you are talking about the biceps femoris. The common name for the strain is a hamstring pull. Heat and rest followed by stretching and moderate exercise is the best way to overcome this injury.

Is it the hamstring? Try icy hot and lay off it a while.
Icy hot, a hand held massager you can buy at your local drugstore and if it gets worse or doesn't get better in a day or 2 go to your doctor and ask for muscle relaxers. Sometimes I've had to get those in order to break the pain/spasm cycle. Once it goes away, it's gone til the next time.
I believe it is the hamstring, you may have "pulled a muscle." See a doc to make sure you didn't tear the muscle.
