I"m 24 and my dr. gave me the option of having a partial hysterectomy b/c o!

Question:
I need someone's opinion on it. Am I too young? should I wait?
Answers:
I think when you refer to a partial hysterectomy, you mean that you would either be keeping your ovaries/fallopian tubes and/or cervix.
I had a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH), that is removal of the uterus and cervix (but kept ovaries/fallopian tubes) at the age of 22, just over 2 years ago. The hysterectomy relieved a significant amount of the pain I was experiencing from endometriosis. I did not have any children at the time of hysterectomy.
You need to determine if you can continue living with the quality of life you have now. If you cannot, you should explore other treatments (if you have not already done so) for your condition.
If you have exhausted other treatments, or a hysterectomy is urgently needed because of significant problems (as determined by your doctor), it may be a decision you want to consider.
If you have not already done so, I would encourage you to seek a second medical opinion and discuss your thoughts/fears, etc. with family or a trusted friend.
Best wishes!

Other Answers:
have you had any kids?? I would say you are to young. I had my tubes tied at 23 but never had a Hysterectomy. My friend had one at 26 but had 3 kids at that point and she was done but she had to have a hyst cause she had ENDO really badly
But your doctor knows you best and knows whats going on. I would keep talking to him about it with your concerns etc

I have never heard of a partial hysterectomy. I have heard of vaginal and abdominal. Vaginal is you keep your ovaries, abdominal the usually take all. I HAD to have a hysterectomy and it was very emotional. I would always go for a second opinion and if Cancer find out the grade level, that may help you make your decision. I also think that you need to get the opinion from someone closer to home, that knows if and how you could handle the decision you make. I hope all works out!

I feel for you, but the only way to get a proper answer to this is to go to your doctor and ask for a second opinion. I would also suggest you work out your priorities in life e.g. children (how would you feel if you cannot have them naturally - you need to be mentally prepared), and also a list of issues such as what it involves, what will be the outcome, what are the risks and side effects and so on. That way you can at least ensure you are as informed as possible. Would it be possible for a friend or relative to go along with you for moral support?

I'd also recommend looking at some legitimate websites for advice - you don't say which country you are in. Perhaps this first site might be a help and help you research others.

I am not an American, but I did find the best treatments web site excellent when I needed to have surgery.

Finally, why not see if there is a support group in Yahoo Groups or on the web for your condition. They are good for advice and you'll be able to chat with fellow suffers.

All the best xxx

You are very young. If you do not have children and think that you would like to have children, I would say that you need a 2nd opinion from another doctor.

Some doctors just like to yank out your uterus instead of trying to help treat what may be wrong with you.
