To what does his fear relate?

Perhaps it might be best to help him figure out what his fear is. Check out the following website:

It surprised the heck out of me as to just how many things might be causing fear of visiting the dentist. Have your roommate check this out. There's also a support forum on the site, so that he can post questions and concerns anonymously, and hopefully get some real encouragement and answers to his questions.

The one thing to keep in mind, he doesn't need to visit the dentist, rather, he'll only visit when he wants to. Whether that means he wants to properly maintain his teeth until old age, he wants to get his smile fixed to feel better about himself, or he wants to put an end to his agonizing toothaches.he's only going to go when he wants to go. Hopefully you can provide him with a supportive environment to where the desire to visit the dentist happens sooner rather than later.

Yes, look for a dentist who specializes in patients with phobias. They can do lots of things that help.Up to and including putting the patient under a general anesthetic for the procedure. I think they're calling it "sedation dentistry" these days.

He might need a ride from the dentist's office though, so your continued friendship, I'm sure, will be appreciated.

no only is this bad for him in general but he could actually have some severe problems from this condition.there are so many things like gengivitas, i don't really know how to spell that, but anyway, your blood can become a poisen. he will need to counsel with the dentist first to get him to understand the matter.

sedation dentistry is a great way for phobic patients to get all their dental needs completed in one appointment. there is oral sedation (pill) and IV sedation.

i am a dental assistant

Have him watch the movie "Marathon Man" then he'll see how nice dentists are.

Dentistry today is very different from years ago. Today dentists can sedate you, medicate you with anti-anxiety medications and of course- nitrous oxide/laughing gas. Bad teeth and gu ms can affect your entire physical well being- face your fears and take care of yourself- you need to!umm that was my mom and she is a dentist but really there i nothing to be afraid about!GOOD LUCK!
