This is such a good question! Belted cardigans or belted blazer look so great, and the look is hot right now. The greatest part about the look is you can't go wrong, outside of clashing colors or patterns.
You can do a skinny belt with a cardigan, a button down tucked in and nipped at the waist with a fat belt, or a blazer with a medium belt. There are even belts out now that have little pouches in them. Not a fannie pack style, but well hidden ones.
The only warning I have is that too skinny of belts on a larger waist line can exagerate the width. Also, buy one size larger, the extra length will shrink the look of the waist line, and what person doesn't need that.
