I am wondering if a PAP test is reliable enough to screen for the HPV virus?!

yup, thats how they found it with me. pap tests grab cells from multiple areas of your cervix, and the hpv causes irregular cells. so chances are it would find irregular cells, if youve got it, and youd go for the further testing youd need.
No, your Pap will come up abnormal and your doctor will have to perform a cervical biopsy to test for HPV. Then if that is positive you discuss treatment.
