that doesn't apply to me though. i'm not from the u.s. but i live in a tropical country and i have had depression for more that a decade now.

I read statistics a few years ago but unfortunately cannot find the website now. I remember mainly that people in the more southern and sunny states had less depression than those in the northern and rainy states.
